A lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy organization in Chicago says Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A will cease donations to groups that oppose gay marriage.

In a Sept. 18 press release, The Civil Rights Agenda wrote that Alderman Proco "Joe"  Moreno, the man who led the opposition in Chick-fil-A opening a restaurant in Chicago, "has confirmed that Chick-fil-A will no longer give money to anti-gay organizations and that they have clarified in an internal document that the company will treat every person equally, regardless of sexual orientation."

How do you feel about Chick-fil-A's position in the Chicago situation? Tell us in the comments below.

The release added that Chick-fil-A has sent an internal memo to franchises and stakeholders that states that as a company, they will “treat every person with honor, dignity and respect-regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender."

This is the latest development in the same-sex marriage controversy that began in July. Company CEO Dan Cathy said in Baptist publication that the company is "guilty as charged" of supporting the biblical definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman.

That spawned nationwide events in August at Chick-fil-A restaurants, including Suwanee.

On Aug. 1, there was Chick-fil-A Apprieciation Day, which spawned record sales. On Aug. 3, there was Same Sex Kiss Day, on which same-sex marriage advocates were urged to protest at the company's stores.

Hey Patch! Being anti-gay marriage is not the same as being anti gay.

I can't believe they caved! There is nothing wrong with an individual having a point of view. Since when did speaking your mind, your opinion become "hate" speech? I'm getting so sick of everyone having to pussy-foot around, having to review in their head everything they might say, just so they don't offend anyone. Grow Up People!! If it hurts your feelings . . . GET OVER IT.
