Creative Clayhouse in Suwanee To Close

The owners plan to move out of state. What are your thoughts?

A unique and colorful business in Old Town Suwanee plans to close its doors.

The Creative Clayhouse, located on Main Street, is for sale because the owners plan to move out of state.

Owners Richard and LaDonna Greiner say they are moving to Missouri to be nearer grandchildren. "It's time for the next phase in our life," LaDonna Greiner said in January.

Richard Greiner said recently that a deal is near for a new owner, though he would not discuss details. But the business is not part of the deal -- the new owner is interested in the building only.

LaDonna Greiner, in a discussion with Suwanee city officials in January, noted that the building, which sits on one-third of an acre, dates to the 1870s and was once owned by the doctor where Jackson Street got its name.

Some of the rooms still have the original floors, and the outside has been remodeled. The house is about 1,500 square feet, and could be used residentially or commercially.

The Greiners have been solid supporters of the city's efforts to establish a national Historic District in Old Town Suwanee. Their property is next door to the historic Pierce's Corner building, which is a focal point of the city's efforts for the district.

The city is not the would-be purchaser of the Clayhouse property, Richard Greiner said.
