Suwanee Makes a Splash at Warrior Dash

Ex-mayors Williams and Masino participate in outdoor challenge.

Getting down and dirty? A couple of former Suwanee mayors can do it as well as anyone.

Dave Williams and Nick Masino were among the locals who participated last month in the Georgia Warrior Dash, billed as the "world's largest running series."

According to wikipedia.org, the Warrior Dash series is an extreme 5-6K running race with obstacles, including jumping over fire and crawling through mud with barbed wire hung overhead.

Each Warrior Dash consists of at least 12 obstacles along a 5-6K course followed by a festival complete with live music, turkey legs and beer steins among other interactive elements. Each participant is individually timed and broken into 12 competitive age divisions.

The organizer, Red Frog Events, is the same outfit that originated the Great Urban Race series.

The Georgia event was May 19-20 in Mountain City.

Who won? Well, looks like a photo finish, with Williams, now with the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, a slight winner at 38:13.55. Masino, now a Gwinnett Chamber VP, was at 38:13.60, according to official race results.
