iPhone 5 Reportedly To Have Larger Screen

The latest version of the Apple smartphone will ship in September, a report says.

The latest model of the Apple iPhone, the iPhone 5, will ship in September 2012, and it will have a substantially larger screen than the current version, according to a media report.

A report originating in Reuters said the chief of Sharp is saying that his company will begin shipping displays for the iPhone 5 in September. Reuters said the new iPhone will have a screen measuring four inches corner to corner, 30 percent larger than the 3.5-inch screen on the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4. Also, the display itself will be thinner, due to touch sensors embedded into the liquid crystal. That could allow Apple to slim down the shape of its top-selling smartphone.

Also, the bigger display allows Apple some catch-up, according to the report. The Samsung Galaxy S III, for instance, has a 4.8-inch screen, and the Samsung Galaxy S III is selling well.
