Meals With Wheels on Friday in Suwanee

Food Truck Fridays will 'roll out' in Town Center Park.

Perhaps the nation's hottest food craze will roll into Suwanee in time for dinner Friday (May 3).

Food Truck Fridays will debut in Town Center Park, the latest tweak in the Suwanee events schedule. Various vendors who serve trendy "meals on wheels" will be set up in the park area in time to start serving about 6:30. An evening of jazz from the park stage will also be on the menu.

Both in Atlanta and nationally, food trucks -- also called "mobile cuisine" -- have become a trendy part of the food landscape. Revenue from mobile cuisine has been estimated in excess of $1 billion annually, and the operations are run by culinary professionals as well as entrepreneurs.

In the Atlanta area, there's a food truck "park" at Howell Mill Road near I-75, where the vehicles set up Wednesday through Sunday, also with live music as a backdrop.

Food trucks already show up at other Suwanee events, such as concerts and the beer fest. But this is the first time an event has been built around them.

"We've had an extraordinarily enthusiastic response to our Food Truck Fridays announcement," Events Manager Amy Doherty said in a news release. "It seems everyone wants to be in on this trend. People are so excited, you'd almost think the food being served up was low-calorie as well as being delicious."

Food truck vendors for Suwanee's debut will include Atlanta Burger Truck, Chay J's New Orleans Candies, King of Pops, Mighty Meatball Mobile, Nana G's Chicken and Waffles, One Love Jerk Grill, and Pressed for Time, the release said. The vendors are subject to change.

And the music Friday will have a Suwanee touch. The Peachtree Ridge, North Gwinnett, Collins Hill, and Flowery Branch high school jazz bands will perform.

Food Truck Fridays also are planned in Suwanee on the first Friday in June, August and September.
