Mediterranean Restaurant Coming to Suwanee

Anatolia Cafe & Hookah Lounge is approved for a location near I-85.

The growing Suwanee restaurant scene is about to offer a taste -- and a whiff -- of Mediterranean culture.

The Anatolia Cafe & Hookah Lounge plans to open in November in the Horizon Village shopping center near I-85 (near the Movie Tavern), as it received City Council approval Tuesday for an alcoholic beverage license.

And if you're wondering what a hookah is -- think a stemmed waterpipe that is used to smoke flavored tobacco, according to wikipedia.org.

The owners are natives of Turkey, and live in the Lawrenceville area. And this is not a new venture -- they currently own an establishment by the same name in downtown Atlanta near Georgia State University.

Thomas Hails, part of the ownership group, said Tuesday in Suwanee that the owners have been eyeing the Suwanee area for awhile. Not only are the demographics appealing, but the location is not far from Georgia Gwinnett College.

The new location will be two-faceted: a main dining room where smoking is off-limits, and a separate smoking lounge where the hookah will be featured. "All you can smoke specials" were mentioned in a Facebook post.
