Movie Tavern Coming in Spring to Suwanee

'Dinner and a movie' facility promising nine screens with seating for 1,000.

Suwanee should get its first movie theater in the spring, and it will have a different touch in many ways.

The Movie Tavern, which puts the "dinner and a movie" concept under one roof, is scheduled to open in mid- to late April in the Gateway area of Suwanee, according to a company official.

The complex will have nine screens and seat just over 1,000 people, according to Karen Sibley, director of marketing for the Dallas-based company that has similar franchises in seven states. The other Atlanta-area Movie Tavern is in the Northlake Mall area.

The facility offers first-run movies and casual dining type food.Β

Patrons can eat and enjoy a movie, though either is available on its own. Service apparently occurs during shows "discreet and unobtrusive."

The facility will be in the former Publix store on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road near I-85. The alcoholic beverage license was approved by the city in December.

Currently, the closest movieplexes now are in Lawrenceville (Colonial 18 and Discover Mills) and Buford (at the Mall of Georgia). First-run flicks such as "Beauty and the Beast" and "Contraband' are playing at the Northlake-area Movie Tavern.
