Movie Tavern a Coming Attraction in Suwanee

'Dinner and a movie' concept will be in a shopping area in Gateway.

Suwanee is about to get its first movie theater -- and a unique one at that.

Movie Tavern (that's the formal name) combines dining and movies, according to its website. It's expected to open in 2012 in the former Publix building on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road in the Gateway area. Also, Suwanee City Council is expected to approve the alcoholic-beverage license this month.

Currently, the closest movieplexes to Suwanee are at the Mall of Georgia in Buford, Discover Mills in Lawrenceville, and the Colonial 18 in Duluth near Highway 120 and SR 316.

The company recently opened its 15th location near Philadelphia and already has an Atlanta-area site -- near Northlake Mall, according to the website.

Patrons can eat and enjoy a movie, though either is available on its own. Service apparently occurs during shows "discreet and unobtrusive."

The menu is standard casual dining/sports bar fare with a "tanker" available under alcoholic beverages. Movies showing include "J. Edgar" and "Puss In Boots," with features varying by day of the week. Breakfast showings are available on Saturdays and Sundays.

Officials at Movie Tavern headquarters in Dallas could not be reached for further details, such as an exact opening date.
