The Lake Lanier Islands Resort area opens Saturday.

The Suwanee area's unofficial "beach" -- Lanier World at Lake Lanier Islands -- will open Saturday, May 12.

According to a news release from Lake Lanier Islands Resort, LanierWorld will have some new touches this year. The main one is that a Ferris wheel and Super Slide have been added to the LanierWorld beach area that debuted in 2011.

"... We’ve sought to create a beach-themed entertainment district on the shores of Lake Lanier that offers something for every type of guest who passes through our gates," Lake Lanier Islands Resort CEO Mike Williams said in a news release. "We’re discovering that every time we rise to meet that demand, the demand grows even more. This year, we’re trying to get a couple of steps in front of the demand and really blow our guests away.”

Also, an inflatable obstacle course, action tower, and trampoline have been added, and over 100 new dock slips will help meet the ever-increasing demand from guests who wish to visit by boat, the release noted.

“No longer geared solely toward families, we’ve designed this unique venue to appeal to a wide range of visitors – Sunset Cove with its kitschy Key West influences, Big Beach with its traditional seaside beach feel, and Family Fun Park with its classic waterpark appeal," Williams said.

A new trolley fleet has been added to transport visitors around the islands.
