Permit Suspended: Sugar Hill Restaurant Scores 37 Out of 100 on Health Inspection

Gwinnett County health inspector found "multiple critical violations."

A Sugar Hill restaurant had its permit suspended Monday, May 19 after scoring 37 out of 100 on its routine health inspection.

Bravos Cantina and Grill on Cumming Highway was cited for 20 violations by a Gwinnett County inspector, including “multiple critical violations.” A compliance hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning, May 20.

Among the violations were:

  • Person in charge did not show managerial control over employees and take corrective action when violations were observed.
  • Cook handled raw beef with gloved hand, then handled utensils.
  • Raw food stored improperly, including raw marinated pork stored above cooked chicken in walk-in cooler.
  • “Parasite destruction document” inadequate for raw tilapia offered as a menu item.
  • Foods stored uncovered in cooler.
  • Microwave not cleaned daily; food encrusted inside.
  • Chicken in hot holding until was not reheated to 165 degrees within 2 hours; the temp was 124.
  • Ready-to-eat potentially hazardous foods held for more than 24 hours not date-marked.
  • No hot water at the restroom hand sinks.
  • Permit not posted.

Bravos had received A’s in its previous two inspections: 91/A on Nov. 25, 2013, and 100/A on Sept. 13, 2013.

As low as the 37 is, it’s the not the lowest given in the past month by health inspectors. Best Wings of Lawrenceville scored 35 in a late-April inspection.
