The Suwanee area is never lacking for news, and so it was this past week or so. Let's review some stories, in case you missed or want another look.

Thanks to our click-oriented universal village, people could watch Friday's historic space mission. The SpaceX capsule Dragon became the first privately-funded vehicle to rendezvous with the International Space Station. The company's mission control in Hawthorne, Calif., teamed with NASA on the effort. And the camera is still live, so you can watch the astronauts float around the vessel.

Wilkes Meat Market of Suwanee has family roots that date to before World War II. Now, their new cookbook also has a humanitarian mission. Family member Jennifer Wilkes needs a kidney transplant.

The Gwinnett County 2012 election season formally began, as candidates for Board of Comissioners, school board and judge/court positions had to formally place their names on the ballots. The primary is July 31, and the general election is Nov. 6.

More evidence of the new ownership of Everett's Music Barn became evident. The venerable facility on Stonecypher Road announced a second all-day benefit, for October. Fund-raising to help the aging structure is paramount.

School's out: Graduations were in the air as Gwinnett County's 162,000 students ended the school year. The new year starts Aug. 6.
