'Too Hot To Fish' Athens Article Draws National Attention

'Colbert Report' and The New York Times join in the frenzy.

In mid-July, Athens Banner-Herald reporter Wayne Ford was tracking down one story and wound up writing an entirely different one about  Oconee County resident Bobby Kirk, who had a complaint about the extreme heat.

That's the explanation Ford gave to Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" about how his article, "Man says it's too hot to fish," came about.

The New York Times picked up the story a few weeks later.
