Vacant Suwanee Storefronts: Change In the 'Cards'

Two more vacancies in a Suwanee strip mall will have a new occupant. What do you think?

Updated 8:37 a.m., March 23

It's a fact of life in business: Sometimes stores large and small relocate, or cease operations.

It has happened recently in a prominent Suwanee strip mall, which houses a Publix on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard at McGinnis Ferry Road.

Jacquelyn Brewer ." Yet now all that remains of the consignment store is a note on the front door.

"Today (2/22/12) was our last day open," the note read. "Thank you so much for everyone's support over the last four years ... Thank you for coming together to help others when asked. I will miss each of you." The note directed inquiries to info@onceagainkids.com.

A nearby suite once was the site of Wallace Reed Music, a staple on the Suwanee scene for years. But it has been vacant for quite some time. Reed's whereabouts are unknown, though an employee at nearby Town Center Music (formerly Braswell's Music) said he had heard that Reed was now in the Marietta area.

But changing business fortunes can be a boon to someone else.

Hallmark, the greeting-card giant, plans to occupy these spaces, Brewer told Suwanee Patch in an email Friday.

So tell us, Suwanee, do you like the change that's coming? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

I thought it was a "done deal" that Hallmark wanted the space that Once Again Kids was in. -along with the spaces The Perfect Present was in- hence the hasty departure?

I'm not sure about that. If you have info, please pass it along.

Karen, thanks for the tip. Note that your info is correct and the story has been updated.

I'm happy we are getting a Hallmark! A panera or Einsreins would be good either in Suwanee Town Center or the Stores behind Walgreens!

Thanks, Susan.

I find it interesting to say the least that our high quality Dollar Discount Store which was a fixture for many years was booted out of the shopping center, then the space stayed vacant, then a lower quality dollar store was brought in. A Hallmark store was to come in. Never happened. I think the management has blundered (and I communicated my feelings to them), and now there are many vacant store fronts. The good Dollar Discount Store is now over in Sugar Hill at the intersection of hiway 20 and sSuwanee Dam Road. Question: wouldn't it better if you had more tenants payinga lesser rent vs. fewer tenants paying no rent? Myabe some genius has the answer. I sure don't.

I think the worst section of "Vacant Suwanee Storefronts" is on the north side of Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd, from Horizon Rd, past I-85, almost to Satellite Blvd. Burger King, Mrs Winners, Mayfair Hotel, Stuckey's, a Korean buffet, and more. All gone. Any plans for that area?

Hi, Steve. Can you add the category "Balloons" and/or "Party Supplies" to your shopping menu. As you know, Dollar Discount was located in the Publix Center at 1000 Peachtree Industrial Blvd for 13 years after which time the landlords did not think we were paying enough rent; forcing us to relocate to the Publix Center at Sugar Hill Corners. Many of our customers still do not know where we are. You would be doing a service to both them and us to add this category to help them find us. We continue to serve the Suwanee and surrounding areas for party supplies, balloons, crafts and school supplies. We even deliver larger orders on request. Our store in Sugar Hill is better than ever; we were able to expand our party, craft and school supply sections to meet the demands of our customers and we are only 4 miles from our old location. Thanks. Marlene @ Dollar Discount 770-932-2120

FYI, you can "claim" this listing for free, that will allow you to update info yourself. Thanks.
