Christmas Break Boredom Busters

How not to lose your mind when the kids are home from school.

In theory it sounds wonderful. Two uninterrupted weeks where the kids are home from school and you can spend oodles of time together singing Christmas carols while baking cookies and sipping on eggnog.

By day three, the picture has changed to the kids running around the house, baking supplies caked to every inch of the kitchen, and Christmas carols drowned out by sibling squabbles.

There is hope! With just a little planning and patience, Christmas break can more closely resemble the picture-perfect scenario. Here are some great ideas on how to entertain the  kids over the holidays.

  • Wear them out! Catch Air in Suwanee and Monkey Joe's in Lawrenceville and Johns Creek have special holiday hours. Join their Facebook pages for weekly coupons and contests. If weather permits, a park day is a great way to burn some energy.
  • Crafts are always a favorite for many kids. Christmas kits are readily available to make gingerbread cookies, gingerbread houses and more.
  • Christmas is a great time to enjoy old family favorite movies. "Frosty the Snowman" or "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer," a bowl of popcorn, and a mug of hot chocolate are wonderful ways to spend an evening.
  • Pin it! Visit Pinterest.com for some fun craft ideas. You don't have to be a member to look around and get some inspiration. Help your kids complete a project. They can even give it as a gift to a loved one.
  • Get smarter. Print off Christmas-themed worksheets from sites such as enchantedlearning.com or Kidzone.ws

Whatever you choose to do over this holiday season, enjoy your loved ones and the time that you get to spend with them.
