5. Today in History: On this date in 2000, a series of tornadoes moved through south Georgia, killing 18 people. The tornadoes began to form in the early morning hours in Colquitt, Tift, Mitchell and Grady counties. The most intense was a tornado with winds in excess of 158 miles per hour that struck Camilla. It blasted through a housing development and destroyed 200 mobile homes. (Source: history.com)
