New Year, New Me, New Kids?

New Year's resolutions include changes for better health and better parenting.

It is typical this time of year. New Year's resolutions made by many prompt new gym memberships, less visits through the drive through, and other lifestyle changes designed to overhaul your life. This year's list of resolutions for me follow this standard: more time working out, less soda, and (gasp) less sweet tea. At the top of my resolution list, have new kids.

Now, before anyone gets too excited, I am NOT pregnant and no, I am not getting rid of my kids. I love my kids. Each day with them is an adventure. Watching their eyes fill up with wonder as they experience new things, seeing them grow and mature brings joy to our home. I love each one's personality and even the little quirks that drive me crazy but are uniquely them.

As much as I love them, this year has brought about some issues that I need to resolve. There has been lots of stress and lots of grief this year. As a result, I have become less patient and more preoccupied, which results in good kids who can be whiny, more attention-seeking, and even a little sarcasm has worked its way into the children's daily vocabulary.

I am completely aware that the path to new kids is becoming a new mommy. A mommy who makes more time for her children, a mommy who is more attentive, and a mommy who doesn't let the stress of the day come through in how she talks to her kid. New Mommy = New Kids.
