Suwanee Woman Remembers 9/11 Aboard Air Force One

A Suwanee woman has a rare perspective of the September 11 terrorist attacks that changed America forever. She was aboard Air Force One with then-President George W. Bush when the attacks hit.

Wanda Joell, then an Air Force Master Sergeant, told Fox 5 news (and reported through accentnorthga.com) that fighter jets were on either side of the president's jet as they learned of the magnitude of the attacks.

"I felt like we were going to be OK, we were safe with our guardian angels," Joell said.

Now retired, Joell said security procedures prevent her from discussing what went on in the hours after the terrorists flew planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. A plane also crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers stormed the terrorists in charge.

"We got airborne and had to make some deviations in flight and different plans just to keep our president safe," Joell said.

Joell is now retired and works as a motivational speaker. She also was the first African American woman to serve as a flight attendant on Air Force One.
