Gwinnett Commission Officials: Our Overseers or Our Servants?

It would seem for a few of the members of the Gwinnett Commission, they feel "Overseers" is the proper answer.  A friend of mine recently addressed members of the commission about a property rights issue that was pretty important to her.

As public servants sitting on the commission, it is their duty and fiduciary responsibility to deal with constituents concerns. As I am quite adept at dealing with political issues before councils and commissions, I made a query on her behalf, in addition to her query.

Well, District 1 Commissioner Jace Brooks and District 4 Commissioner John Heard apparently find "concerns of the people they serve" to be annoying and beneath their positions.

As an example, here is Commissioner jace Brooks response to her very valid concern:

QUOTING COMMISSIONER JACE BROOKS:
"Thank you for your question.  Once this issue rises to the level of one of the top 5 or even top 10 priorities for Gwinnett County, I would be happy to spend my time and staff time researching this topic.  However, at this time, it is not a top priority.
Thank you,
Jace Brooks"

Okay . . . . I had to do a double take on that flippant and demeaning response to an issue SHE finds important. Commissioner Brooks essentially told her "I don't care about your concern in the least, and your concern would be a waste of my time to even bother looking into. Please don't bother me again."

I'm sorry, but this is an unacceptable response, by any reasonable measure outside of a third world country governed by a totalitarian regime. And Commissioner Heards response wasn't a danged bit better.

Neither seems to grasp the concept of "The U.S. Constiution" or even the Georgia Constitution. And when I replied to Commissioner Brooks letting him know, in no uncertain terms, that I did not appreciate being talked to like I was a medieval serf, he became even more indignant. And even had the audacity to cry "Foul!" at my terse insistence that he check his flippant attitude.

One thing is certain; His cheery campaign demeanor and his "true nature" once he was elected, are two very different personas. And with as much baggage as Commissioner Brooks and Commissioner Heard have in their closets, they would do well to understand that it is their duty to deal with concerns their constituents hold dear.

When it comes to their Constitutionally-mandated responsibility to protect the rights of even a minority of the citizenry from the fickle will of even a majority of citizens, they need to step up to the plate, instead of arrogantly dismissing rightful concerns about overreaching and unsubstantiatable infringments on the citizens of gwinnett to utilize and quietly use and enjoy their own property in a reasonable and innocuous manner.
