Pets Also Are a Means of Community Involvement
Find a need and Fill It. (Donate or volunteer to Georgia SPCA.)
Have you ever seen an animal wandering the streets? Are you afraid for that dog/cat, etc? You think to yourself they are taking a chance and risking their lives. Well, the Georgia SPCA (located in Suwanee) is one of the largest and most effective pet protection organizations. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a non-profit pet rescue organization which takes in and protects these furry friends.
We have recently lost two large Samoyeds (Teddy and Shana). Shana died about 3 years ago and Teddy died on Mother's Day weekend. We are heartbroken. Teddy was about 12 years old. Before he was taken in by a rescue organization, he was found as an abused dog at 2 years old. I just don't get it. Why would someone adopt a dog and then abuse him? Shortly after he was nurtured by the rescue team, my husband adopted him. He lived a happy life with us up until the end.
In honor of Teddy and Shana, we want to continue to support the local Georgia SPCA. They are currently in need of donations (monetary and supplies). My daughter's preschool has designated every July to be their "Precious Pets" month. They are collecting donations to give directly to the Georgia SPCA.

If you are interested in getting involved in your local community and don't know where to start, don't forget about the pets. The Georgia SPCA is always looking for volunteers, fundraising events, etc. but especially now. Please check out for a complete listing of items they are looking for to keep the animals happy and healthy.
I thank you and the furry friends thank you too.
