The Fighting irish, ranked No. 1 in the BCS standings, completed an 11-0 season Saturday night with an 22-13 victory over rival USC.

In the SEC, Georgia smacked Georgia Tech 42-10, and Alabama walloped Auburn 49-0. The Crimson Tide (No. 2 in BCS) thus clinched the SEC West title and will play Georgia (No. 3 in BCS) for the SEC title in Atlanta on December 1. The SEC champion then likely will get the bid to play the Irish for the BCS title January 7 in Miami.

This already is quite a turnaround for Georgia, which was thrashed by South Carolina earlier in the season.

Even Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal is on the Bulldogs' bandwagon. "Keep up the good work," he told Georgia players Saturday when he presented them with the Governor's Cup. "We're looking for a national championship."

Georgia last won a national title in 1980, Herschel Walker's freshman season. Their opponent that season in the title game? Notre Dame.
