Suwanee Plein Air Artists: Color Them Happy
The fall Plein Air event was held last weekend by the North Gwinnett Arts Association.
Just call it speed painting.
"You have to paint quickly because the light changes," Vickie Johnson said Saturday (October 27) at White Street Park in Suwanee. She and several artists were participating in the fall 2012 Plein Air painting event, organized by the North Gwinnett Arts Association.
Plein air is a French term that means recording outdoor scenes and landscape as it happens, before light changes. Johnson was set up in a wooded area in the rear of the park. "I love my trees," she added.

Johnson noted that some plein air artists will start a painting, stop, then go back to the same place at another time to capture the same light.
"I like to just knock it out," she said.

Other Gwinnett artists who set up at White Street Park during the two-day event were Carol Van Dyck and Adrienne Kinsey. Artists checked in to the NGAA's temporary HQ near City Hall to record the areas where they would be painting.
Johnson, who is an arts teacher at Central Gwinnett High, is particularly fond of painting in the fall. "You don't get these colors any other time of year."
