Now, the football attention in these parts turns to the Atlanta Falcons, who host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in the Georgia Dome in the NFL playoffs. (Game time: 1 p.m., FOX).

The Falcons won the NFL South division in 2012 and have home-field advantage throughout the NFL playoffs. However, the team has not fared well in the postseason in recent years. In Mike Smith's five seasons as head coach, the Falcons have gone 0-4 in the playoffs. In fact, the team has not won a playoff game since Michael Vick was at quarterback, after the 2004 season.

Seattle, under former USC coach Pete Carroll, advance to this round with a victory over Washington last week. The latest news out of the Pacific Northwest is that RB Marshawn Lynch has a sprained foot, but is expected to play vs. Atlanta, according to the Associated Press.

A key Atlanta player, Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez, is hoping that Sunday's playoff game is not his last. At age 36, he says he is "95 percent" sure that he will retire after the season, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

And it's political, in a fun way. The governors of Georgia and Washington state have made a wager of sorts on the game.
