UPDATE: Motorcyclist Killed at I-85/I-985 Identified

Gwinnett Police say the man lost control after striking a tire tread that had become airborne.

Gwinnett Police said Thursday morning that the man killed in an accident on I-85 near the I-985 split in Buford on Wednesday evening was Leon Cross.

Cpl. Edwin Ritter said in a news release that Cross, 35, lost control of his motorcycle after hitting a tire tread that had become airborne.Β

The tractor-trailer's driver was unable to avoid Cross and ran over him, the police statement said.

Cross was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died from the injuries he received.Β No charges are pending in the incident.Β No other injuries were reported.

The accident shut down I-85 at the I-985 split.
