Suwanee Fire Near I-85 Under Control

Wind-driven blaze closed freeway briefly.

Gwinnett Fire officials have reopened I-85 and Sawmill Drive in Suwanee after containing a brush fire Monday afternoon.

The last trucks left the scene at 3 p.m., Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in news release. The blaze, pushed by steady wind gusts, burned about two acres near the interstate.

The cause of the fire is undetermined but not thought to be suspicious.

There were no reports of injuries.

Fire vehicles initially responded to a call about 11:30 p.m. Sawmill Drive was closed until just before 2 p.m.
