Gainesville Man Drowns at Lake Lanier

Georgia DNR officials report that a 25-year-old man drowned Monday.

A 25-year-old man from Gainesville reportedly drowned in Lake Lanier at Bolling Mill on Monday afternoon, Aug. 6.

According to Melissa Cummings, public affairs coordinator for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Spencer Obe Dye, 25, of Gainesville got into trouble in the water. A friend pulled him out and attempted CPR but was unsuccessful. Cummings said Dye was pronounced dead at 5:55 p.m.

This is the second drowning in Lake Lanier in less than two weeks. On July 26, Rodrigo Bernal Trejo, 44, drowned while swimming close to the West Bank of the lake.
