Georgia State Patrol To Handle Suwanee Traffic Accidents on I-85
The state agency has a new post in the area, and will be getting additional officers.
The new Georgia State Patrol post opening soon in Gwinnett also will mean that Suwanee Police will be getting some help from the state agency.
Suwanee Police Chief Mike Jones said Thursday that the state agency will now work traffic accidents on I-85 in the Suwanee city limits. Also, he said the GSP will be welcome to work Suwanee traffic cases on surface streets in the city limits.
"They're here to help us," Jones said. He added that Suwanee Police still could assist the GSP.

The GSP announced recently that it will open a new post in Duluth, for added police presence. Jones added that the agency will be getting 30 new officers in April.

In return, Suwanee will use some police funds to purchase two laser speed detection devices for about $5,000, and donate those to the GSP.
Jones noted that many traffic accident cases on I-85 are "very time consuming." He added that any citations handed out by the GSP in Suwanee still would be processed through Suwanee Municipal Court.
