Gwinnett Firefighters Kept Busy with Several Reported Blazes

Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said firefighters were kept busy Friday and Saturday with several fires.

He sent a press release summarizing some of the incidents:

In addition to a number of woods/grass fires, firefighters have also been busy this weekend with the below responses.

• HOUSE FIRE

Firefighters responded at 7:08p.m. on April 4, 2014 to a report of a house fire in the 6300 block of Joseph Way in Norcross.  Crews found smoke showing from the attic on arrival.   Firefighters were dispatched back to the location at 10:25p.m. to a possible rekindle.  One engine was sent to extinguish a smoldering hot spot from the original fire.

Equipment at the scene included: 3-Engines, 1-Ladder Truck, 1-Squad, 1-Medic Unit, 1-Air & Light Unit, 2-Battalion Chiefs, 1-Fire Investigator.

• HOUSE FIRE

Firefighters responded at 5:29p.m. on April 5, 2014 to a report of a house fire in the 1100 block of Johns Landing Court in Lawrenceville.  Crews found smoke showing from a two-story wood frame house on arrival.  Firefighters operated in the offensive mode to control a fire in the basement.  The blaze extended via the wall to the main level and sent extensive smoke throughout the structure.  Two dogs were removed from the structure that required resuscitation with the animal oxygen masks.  The owner transported both dogs to a local emergency animal hospital.  The fire appears accidental and may have been sparked by the clothes dryer.

Equipment at the scene included: 3-Engines, 1-Ladder Truck, 1-Squad, 1-Medic Unit, 1-Air & Light Unit, and 2-Battalion Chiefs.

• HOUSE FIRE

Firefighters responded at 6:57p.m. on April 5, 2014 to a report of a house fire in the 4000 block of Church View Lane in Suwanee.  The call originated as a  grass fire and was upgraded to a townhome fire.  Crews found the yard and back deck ablaze on arrival.  The fire was contained to the exterior of the building and no structural damage was reported.

Equipment at the scene included: 4-Engines, 2-Ladder Truck, 1-Squad, 1-Medic Unit, 2-Battalion Chiefs.

• STRUCTURE FIRE

Firefighters responded at 2:20p.m. on April 5, 2014 to a report of a shed on fire in the 2800 block of Williams Farm Drive in Dacula.  Crews found heavy smoke and flames showing from a storage shed behind the main house on arrival.  The fire scorched the back lawn and destroyed the shed.

Equipment at the scene included: 3-Engines and 1-Battalion Chief.

• LANDFILL FIRE

Firefighters responded at 8:06p.m. on April 5, 2014 to a report of a trash fire at the old landfill on Arnold Road and Highway 29 in Lawrenceville.  Crews found a large fire atop a trash pile on arrival.  Firefighters were challenged by access problems with reaching the main body of fire.  The fire was extinguished and was contained to a portion of the trash pile.

Equipment at the scene included: 2-Engines, 1-Squad, 1-Water Tender and 1-Battalion Chief.
