'Heavy Smoke and Fire' at House in Suwanee

Gwinnett firefighters bring the blaze under control Tuesday morning. One person is injured.

A house in the 1500 block of Andrew Hill Court in Suwanee was damaged Tuesday morning (June 25) by "heavy smoke and fire," authorities said.

One resident was treated and released at the scene for a minor burn injury, according to a Gwinnett Fire news release. Four residents (two adults and two children) were displaced and are not requiring Red Cross assistance.

Officials were on the scene about 8:30 a.m., and the blaze was under control less than an hour later. The two-story house had "heavy smoke and fire" when firefighters arrived.

Crews were faced with high heat and smoke conditions, and battled the fire back to where the majority of the blaze was in the garage and the room above the garage. Two searches were completed, and firefighters were able to locate and extinguish "hot spots."

Arson investigators said the fire was accidental and was caused by a faulty light-duty electrical cord that was used to power an appliance in the garage. Residents were alerted to the fire by smoke alarms.
