NEWS NEARBY: Fire Damages Popular Gwinnett Restaurant

News from Patch sites in the area.

Dreamland BBQ, a popular restaurant located in Peachtree Corners, caught fire Wednesday evening (January 16) around 5:30 p.m.

The fire appears to have caused extensive damage. Gwinnett firefighters were called around 5:20 p.m. and had the fire under control shortly after 6 p.m., said Lt. Colin Rhoden, spokesman for the county fire department.

"There were several patrons in the restaurant at the time, and the manager was able to get them and the employees out of the restaurant," said Rhoden.

Rhoden said the restaurant manager saw smoke in the back of the restaurant, immediately called 911 and got everyone out of the building.

"The manager told the 911 dispatch center that there was smoke in the attic and that he was unsure where it was coming from, said Rhoden.

Rhoden said that when fire crews arrived, "smoke was found throughout the business" and that "fire conditions began to build and fire broke through the center of the roof."
