NEWS NEARBY: Armed Man Is Tased, Fatally Shot by Police in Gwinnett

A man who turned out to be armed was tased and fatally shot by Gwinnett Police during an incident Tuesday (December 4) in Buford.

Gwinnett County officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in response to a report of people smoking marijuana, accoring to a police news release. Upon arrival, officers encountered a group of five or six people in the parking lot.

One of the officers began to frisk an adult Hispanic male. The male pulled away from the officer, withdrew a handgun from his clothing and pointed the gun at his own head. Officers ordered the man to drop the gun, but he failed to comply.

"When he refused, the first responding officer fired a Taser, striking the suspect," according to Gwinnett County Police public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith. "The shot from the Taser did not incapacitate the suspect and he was able to pull out the probes.  Immediately after pulling out the probes, the suspect pointed his gun at the responding officers.  Three officers fired at the suspect, who was struck and killed."
