The accident report states that Wilkerson was traveling west on Lawrenceville Highway when she entered the right turn lane for Indian Trail. She did not apply any brakes and continued straight into the traffic signal pole at the corner of the intersection.

One witness traveling on Indian Trail said she was going to proceed straight through the intersection until she saw the SUV traveling at a high rate of speed. She saw the car jump the curb and stike the pole, and flames started less than 10 seconds from impact.

Another witness said Wilkerson's car appeared to be going 70 miles per hour. She looked like she was attempting to "thread the needle" between stopped vehicles and the light pole on Highway 29, according to the report.
