The Charlotte man was a medical student on his way home from Texas for Thanksgiving.

The 26-year-old man killed by a tractor-trailer on I-85 Friday near Suwanee had run out of gas on his way home for Thanksgiving, according to the Charlotte Observer. Calvin Wilson Jr. was hit and killed at about 3 a.m., and Gwinnett County Police initially had to ask for help in identifying him.

Wilson reportedly was a student at the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin, Texas', Graduate School of Integrative Medicine who went by the nickname of Cal. His family became concerned when he didn't arrive Wednesday night from his trip home from Austin, Texas.

He allegedly contacted his father and said he had run out of gas Wednesday and needed money. When his parents did not hear from him again, they began posting messages on his Facebook page looking for him. It is unclear at this time what happened between Wednesday when he contacted his father to say he ran out of gas and the early morning hours of Friday, when he was struck and killed by the tractor-trailer. Police reported that the driver of the tractor-trailer would not be facing charges.
