Lightning Strikes House in Suwanee

Gwinnett Police precinct office also hit.

Gwinnett County fire and emergency crews responded to several reports of lightning strikes to fires and businesses Tuesday night as a result of the thunderstorm.

Among the incidents was a lightning strike and house fire in the 2700 block of Blakely Drive in Suwanee at 9:11 p.m., according to Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge. The caller reported smelling smoke inside the townhome and alarms going off. Crews found light smoke coming from a clothes dryer due to lightning.

Incidents also were reported in Lawrenceville, Braselton, Dacula and Bethlehem.

Also, crews responded to a fire report at the Gwinnett County Police Department precinct office at the Mall of Georgia. Officers reported a lightning strike and smoke inside the building. Emergency crews found smoke inside the building and a sprinkler activated. Minor damage was reported.
