UPDATE: Police Arrest Suspect in Gwinnett SWAT Standoff

The standoff happened on Castle Drive in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Update 12:15pm - 

Gwinnett County Police have arrested the suspect involved in a SWAT standoff on Thursday night.

GCPD Cpl. Edwin Ritter says 38-year-old Russell Fowler became enraged after a disagreement at a home at 2865 Castle Road in unincorporated Lawrenceville. Fowler reportedly grabbed a gun inside the house and fired off a round. Officers were called to the scene at about 10 p.m.

Police cleared the scene at about 6:30 a.m. Friday after it was discovered that Fowler had fled the scene. About 45 minutes later, Fowler returned to the home. Officers were called back to the house and took the suspect into custody.

Fowler was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment for a cut to his hand. He was then taken to the Gwinnett County Jail where he is charged with aggravated assault, felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of simple battery.

Gwinnett County Police are on the lookout for a suspect following a standoff in Lawrenceville, Ga. Thursday night.

According to 11Alive, police were called to a home on Castle Drive in unincorporated Lawrenceville after 10 p.m. Thursday. GCPD officers were responding to a call about a man firing a gun around the house. The suspect reportedly refused to talk to officers and the SWAT team was called in.

Cpl. Edwin Ritter told 11Alive that others were in the home at the time but no one was injured. 

When SWAT members entered the house just before 5 a.m., but the suspect was not inside. 

According to Ritter, the suspect faces a number of charges and has been arrested in the past for assault with a gun. Police say he is armed with a pistol.
