Suwanee Man Charged With DUI on I-85, Tracked at Over 100 MPH

Coming from Monster Jam, suspect tells Gwinnett Police.

A Suwanee man recently was charged with DUI and speeding on I-85 North near Norcross after a Gwinnett Police helicopter tracked him driving over 100 mph.

According to Gwinnett Police records, the man had a blood alcohol level of 0.16, and was passing vehicles on the shoulder of I-85 North near Beaver Ruin Road on Feb. 16.

The suspect told police he had been to the Monster Jam motorsports event at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The arrest took place about 11:23 p.m. after police administered a field sobriety test.

The arresting officer noted that his speech was "very slurred and thick" and that his eyes were "very watery and bloodshot." He also told officers he had had "two or three beers."

The report noted that the suspect was "changing lanes rapidly and driving recklessly." He told police that he was "cutting in and out of lanes," but not on the shoulder.
