As we begin a new week, it's time to review some top Suwanee and Gwinnett news stories from the week that just passed.

CHARTER SCHOOL AMENDMENT: There was plenty of election news, but a development that really hit home in Gwinnett was the so-called Charter School Amendment. Georgia voters approved an amendment that would allow the state to set up charter schools without local school board approval. The decision drew the disapproval of Gwinnett Schools Superintendent Alvin Wilbanks.

GCPS DISTRICT III RACE: One local election drew some particular attention in November. Veteran Gwinnett school board member Dr. Mary Kay Murphy faced a spirited challenge from Democrat Jen Falk. Murphy was re-elected, but Falk received almost 40 percent of the votes.

SUWANEE SHOOTING PROBE CONTINUES: Early in October, a man called Suwanee Police and said that he had "accidentally shot his wife in the head." A month later, the investigation continues into the . The couple lived in the Chattahoochee Run subdivision.

VETERANS DAY SPECIAL TO SUWANEE MAN: Hank Freedman celebrated another Veterans Day -- at age 91. He was a prisoner of war in Germany in 1944-45, and later had a successful career in retail electronics in Atlanta.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Another high school football regular season came to a close. In Suwanee, North Gwinnett and Collins Hill qualified for playoffs that begin November 16.
