SUWANEE NEWS WEEK: Fatality at Lake Lanier and More ...

A recap of some top news stories recently in the Suwanee area.

The past week in Suwanee was dominated by one story, but there were some other noteworthy happenings. A look back:

Late Monday, a boating collision on Lake Lanier took the life of Jake Prince, 9, and left his brother, Griffin, 13, missing. Authorities say Paul Bennett, who operates a Johns Creek hair salon, drove the boat that collided with a pontoon boat operated by the boys' father, Mike Prince Jr. Bennett has been charged with boating under the influence in connection with the crash.

Gwinnett County officials announced that the county's first "diverging diamond" interchange will be built on I-85 at Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth.

The Atlanta Falcons will hold their popular Friday Night Lights scrimmage at Peachtree Ridge High in Suwanee in August. It will mark the fourth time the NFL team has held the event at a Gwinnett school.

The proposed 1 percent sales tax that is known as TSPLOST is very much in the public eye, and recently a prominent Gwinnett columnist came out against it. Elliott Brack, whose Gwinnett Forum newsletter originates in Peachtree Corners, said state legislators should have formulated a plan for transportation improvements rather than passing the issue on to voters.

The Suwanee Business Alliance, the city's leading networking group, held its June meeting at a country club in Johns Creek. It was a joint event with that city's business networking group, and an effort to help Suwanee members branch out.
