Suwanee Police Felt Lanier Boating Tragedy

A Suwanee officer is related to the victims, and helped with the recovery effort.

felt a personal sense of loss from the recent fatal boating collision on Lake Lanier.

Suwanee officer Wes Edwards is uncle to the Prince boys, who were killed in the June 18 crash. Edwards participated in the recovery effort, which ended Wednesday when searchers recovered the body of Griffin Prince, 13. Jake Prince, 9, also died in the collision.

Deputy Police Chief Janet Moon noted that Edwards was assigned to the command post as the liaison between the incident commander for the dive team and the family for any questions that arose during the search efforts. The officer would also debrief the family every evening of the search efforts and the next day plan of action.

Suwanee PD did provide food, etc., to the family, Moon said.

Edwards has asked that his family's privacy be respected during the grieving process.

Several local law enforcement agencies as well as the FBI provided assistance in the nine-day search for Griffin's body.

Service arrangements for the Prince boys have not been announced.
