Updated 6 a.m., May 27, 2011

Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services responded to 123 calls between 5-8 p.m. Thursday because of the storm, but there were no incidents reported in Suwanee.

There were reports of trees down on houses in Duluth, Snellville (2) and Norcross, but no injuries were reported, Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in a news release. The department activated its Emergency Operations Plan and staffed the War Room at headquarters.

Calls included live wires down (45), house fires (4, only one working), vehicle fires (3), and vechicle accidents (14).

Fire crews responded to a house fire in Lilburn, in the 5300 block of Candleberry Drive SW.  The fire was sparked by a lightning strike to the attic that was witnessed by neighbors.  Crews found flames showing from the roof of the two-story wood frame house on arrival.  No injuries were reported.

Georgia Power said in its Twitter feed that there were 52,000 people without power in metro Atlanta at 6 a.m.
