Suwanee Teen Robbed of $6,000 Inheritance at Gunpoint

A Suwanee man is arrested on armed robbery and kidnapping charges.

A Suwanee man was arrested on armed robbery and kidnapping charges after an incident in which a teen was robbed of $6,000, according to police.

According to Suwanee Police, Simeon Marquis Cooper of a Morning Glen Court address was booked into the Gwinnett Detention Center.

Police were first alerted to the incident on Aug. 5 by the victim's grandmother, and first made contact with the victim as he was walking near a subdivision on Smithtown Road, according to the police report. The victim said he was walking to meet his grandmother at a nearby restaurant.

The victim told police that the robbery incident began "a few days ago" after he was "hanging out" with three people at a motel on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, the report said.

The victim said he had known two of the people for awhile. The victim said he was able to help the people buy food and stay with him at the motel because he had just turned 18 and received an inheritance from his grandfather.

The victim said the four of them were getting in the car recently when "they showed me their guns" and told them he was going to the bank and withdraw $6,000 to give to them.

The group drove to a bank on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, and the victim went in the bank with one of the people from the group.

After he withdrew the money, the victim and the others drove back to the motel, and the men dropped the victim off. The victim said the others were "gambling" with the money at the motel, and the victim showed police photos on his cell phone of the men holding up large amounts of cash at the motel. The victim could not advise police who took the pictures.

The victim told police that he was depressed that the men had taken all his money, and was afraid to leave the motel and tell police what happened.

The victim gathered his belongings after the men had left the room, and he left the motel and called his grandmother.

The arrest was made by a Suwanee Police detective during the investigation.
