No charges are expected in a Wednesday afternoon accident that killed a 13-year-old boy riding a bicycle in Gwinnett County.

Gwinnett Police said Justin Shaw, 13, of Lawrenceville died Wednesday evening at Egleston Hospital after he was struck by two vehicles hours earlier on Club Drive at Woodstream Drive. He apparently did not stop at a stop sign.

The accident occurred around 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18.

The boy was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, then airlifted to Egleston, where he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.

Gwinnett Police Cpl. Ed Ritter said in a news release that investigators believe the boy was intending to turn onto Club Drive from Woodstream when he ran the stop sign. He was struck by the driver of a Chevorlet Equinox heading southbound on Club Drive. The driver applied the brakes, but could not avoid hitting the boy. The impact caused the boy to enter the northbound lane and he was struck by the driver of a Honda Accord.

“Charges regarding this accident are not anticipated as this investigation continues,” Ritter said in the release.

This is so sad but not surprising. When I was his age I couldn't be bothered to stop at stop signs or not dart out in front of cars when riding my bicycle. I would have scoffed in your face if you told me it was dangerous to not stop at stop signs...
