Suwanee To Have Picnic, Strategy Rollout at Music Barn

A community picnic is planned in April for the draft of the 20/20 Vision plan.

Suwanee city officials are ready to roll out a draft version of the 20/20 Vision strategic plan next month at one of its most iconic sites, the Everett Music Barn.

According to the city's website, an "old-fashioned Southern potluck picnic" is planned at the venerable music facility on Stonecypher Road on Sunday, April 29, at 12:30 p.m.

The city began its latest strategic planning effort last summer, . The effort has continued with a series of forums and roundtable discussions, all designed to gather citizen input.Β

During the picnic, a mini-open house is planned to capture feedback. In addition, entertainment will be provided by one of the Everett Music Barn's house bluegrass bands. The event is scheduled for 12:30-4 p.m., with the picnic to begin at about 1 p.m. and the band to perform at about 3:30.

The city is working with local barbecue restaurants to provide the main course for the picnic as well as chips and drinks, the website posting says. Attendees are asked to bring a hot or cold side dish or dessert to share.

Some 435 people participated in 10 different activities at the strategic plan open house last July; six community focus groups discussed issues related to their particular demographic; and through the fall and winter, 100 conversations were held by 25 roundtable groups, city officials said.

The final round of discussions began in January. Scott Page of Interface Studios, which has worked with the city on the 20/20 Vision effort, gave a briefing on the results at the January City Council meeting.

Those who wish to attend the potluck at the music barn are asked to RSVP to Bille Marshall at City Hall by April 20,Β marshall@suwanee.com.

The Everett Music Barn has hosted bluegrass performances since the 1970s, some by nationally known artists. Co-owner Jennifer Falk is among the Suwanee residents participating in the 20/20 Vision efforts.
