Democrat Spencer Frye Will Represent House District 118 for Athens, Ga.

The director of the Athens Area Habitat for Humanity defeated Republican Carter Kessler by a wide margin.

Democrat Spencer Frye, well-known in town for his work with Habitat for Humanity, defeated Republican Carter Kessler in a bid for Georgia House District 118. Frye captured 67.92 percent of the vote to Kessler's 32.08 percent.

In July, Frye beat long-time incumbent Keith Heard for the Democratic nomination.

He is the lone Democrat in Athens Clarke County's legislative delegation. Republican Regina Quick, who defeated incumbent Democrat-turned-Republican Doug McKillip in the primary, didn't have a Democratic opponent.

Frye's district is contained completely in Democratic Athens Clarke County. Kessler, who had worked for Ron Paul and espoused a Libertarian philosophy during the primary, began talking about Democratic matters the last few weeks of the campaign.

Apparently, that wasn't enough to convince voters to support him.
