SPEAK OUT: Did H&R Block Error Delay Your Tax Refund?

Up to 600,000 returns reportedly were affected nationally. Share your thoughts.

Well known income tax preparer H&R Block acknowledges making an error on 2012 income tax returns that could delay up to 600,000 refunds.

In media reports Tuesday, a Block spokesperson said the company, which has an outlet in Suwanee, improperly filed Form 8863, which deals with education credits, leaving mandatory fields blank.

The problem reportedly stems from a change in the way the IRS processes “yes” or “no” questions on the forms. The IRS previously accepted a blank field to mean “no” on the form. However, this year it requires physically entering the answer “no.”

The delays related to the filing errors reportedly are creating concern among college students applying for financial aid, which requires tax information.
