It's the first sign of activity from any of the defendants who pleaded guilty on May 31 to federal bribery charges. John Fanning and his mother pleaded guilty to a bribery scheme and face prison time.

The case still is big news in the area. Lasseter is a former Duluth mayor and also represented Suwanee on the Gwinnett commission.

The guilty plea in the federal sting operation concerned a possible rezoning of a development on Boggs Road. Federal authorities say Lasseter took $36,500 in bribes in exchange for her vote on the redevelopment. The rezoning concerned a pawn shop that was to be a front for drug trafficking.

John Fanning also pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges. Also pleading guilty was Hall County businessman Carl "Skip" Cain.

The defendants are to be sentenced Aug. 6.
