New Suwanee Mayor To Deliver State Of City Speech Wednesday

Jimmy Burnette, a lifelong Suwanee resident who took over as mayor Jan. 1, will deliver his first State Of The City address Wednesday.

Burnette will make the speech as part of the January meeting of the Suwanee Business Alliance, a networking group at 6 p.m. at l.

According to a city news release, Burnette will offer a broad perspective of the community, comparing the Suwanee of his childhood and today. The mayor also will provide information about where Suwanee will be headed in 2012 and beyond.

He is an advocate of the changes that have come to the city since 2001, when the Open Space Initiative was passed and led to the development of the city's well-known parks system. When he officially announced his election plans last year, he said job growth would be a priority for his administration.

Burnette is a resident of Old Town Suwanee and was a member of Suwanee's City Council since 1996 before winning the mayoral election in November.
