Gwinnett BOC Purchases Fort Daniel Site -- Dacula Patch

The Fort Daniel historic site in Dacula will now belong to Gwinnett County and its citizens.

The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners voted recently to purchase the 4.32-acre site for $241,000 with funds from the 2009 SPLOST program. The property also includes a 1,500-square-foot home.

“We look forward to working with community groups such as the Gwinnett Archaeological Research Society and Friends of Fort Daniel to provide educational opportunities for Gwinnett County youth and families,” Gwinnett County Board Chairman Charlotte Nash said in a released statement.

According to a Gwinnett County press release, Fort Daniel was built prior to the incorporation of Gwinnett County in 1818.
