Old Peachtree Road in Suwanee Becoming Four Lanes

Change should be complete Monday, Aug. 15, state DOT says.

If all goes well, Old Peachtree Road in Suwanee will become a four-lane, divided road Monday, Aug. 15.

Georgia Department of Transportation engineers have been working on widening the road from Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road to Peachtree Trails Drive, and weather permitting, the work will soon be done.

β€œTo widen Old Peachtree to a four-lane divided highway, we built two new lanes. Traffic is now runningΒ  on the 'new lanes.' We are finishing up the reconstruction of those two 'original' lanes to meet the new design. Monday by mid-morning, traffic will be split to use the outside lane on each side of the median," Georgia DOT engineer Randall Davis said in a media release. "There is still some paving to finish and work to the median of the roadway before two lanes can be opened in each direction. Work is going well."

This work is in conjunction with the massive McGinnis Ferry Road/I-85 project, which will create a four-lane bridge over the interstate as part of a 2.67-mile stretch from Satellite Boulevard to Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

That $20.4 million project originally was scheduled for completion in September, and may now be finished ahead of schedule.

"Please slow down and use extra caution as many changes are coming to the area as the work concludes. Thank you for your patience as we upgrade our transportation network,” Davis added.
