The Suwanee City Council commended Principal Dr. Nancy Kiel and her staff at City Hall. The school was recognized recently as a Georgia School of Excellence by the state Department of Education.
The school has been open five years, and Kiel noted that the award was given for student gains during a three year period.
In other action Tuesday:
- the council approved transferring $700,000 from other funds into the city's general fund. This would be to pay for projects in 2013, including the Pedestrian Bicycle Plan and the Buford Highway sidewalks project;
- the council OK'd a zoning change for a strip mall at 3429 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. This will allow in a Jimmy John's restaurant, which wanted the zoning change for a drive-thru with speakers.
