The July 16 effort at City Hall is in conjunction with Gwinnett County.

Suwanee City Hall will be host to a public information session on the coming TSPLOST vote on Monday, July 16, Mayor Jimmy Burnette announced at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

The info session will be held at 6 p.m., Burnette said. This will be in conjunction with Gwinnett County officials. Burnette noted that other details of the event will be forthcoming.

Several public information sessions already had been scheduled elsewhere in Gwinnett on the July 31 vote, which would add a 1 percent sales tax in Gwinnett and other areas in Atlanta. The monies raised by the tax would be used to fund transportation-related improvements.

Suwanee elected officials are solidly behind TSPLOST. The June issue of Crossroads, the city's official newsletterΒ reads,Β "Among the Gwinnett County projects, one is in Suwanee, a $5.5 million project to reconstruct Buford Highway, from George Pierce Park to McGinnis Ferry Road in a manner that is context sensitive and encourages a variety oftransportation modes.

Also from Crossroads: "The City of Suwanee would plan to use 60 percent of its local funding for resurfacing and road maintenance. The funding would provide for approximately 20 miles of road resurfacing, representing about a third of the City’s roads. The other 40 percent would be used for intersection, sidewalk, and trail improvements. The City anticipates that it could construct about 2 miles of new sidewalks with these funds."

Former Suwanee Mayor Dave Williams, now with the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, also is a strong advocate of TSPLOST, as is Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal.

TSPLOST voting will be at Gwinnett County precincts.
